St Matthias Parish, Widikum

DEANERIES AND PARISHES > WIDIKUM DEANERY

St Matthias Parish Widikum was created on 1 April 1951.  Today the Parish has 12 Mission Stations, 1 Nursery, 5 Primary and St Benedict's Catholic Comprehensive High School. The Sisters Servants of Mary run the St Joseph Catholic Hospital and the Parish is administered today by the Pallotine Fathers. The Pallotine Missionaries, also known as the Society of Catholic Apostolate (SAC) was founded in Rome, Italy by St. Vincent Pallotti (1795-1850) on 4th April 1835, by bringing together Priests, Rev. Brothers, Rev. Sisters and lay people, married and single, for the purpose of living and spreading the Good News. Their particular charism is the promotion of the Lay Apostolate. It is to be recalled that it was the German Pallottine Missionaries who pioneered the evangelization of Cameroon in 1890 from Limburg in Germany. They came as far as Mamfe but had to leave Cameroon in 1914 because of the First World War. Their work was taken over by the Mill Hill Missionaries in 1922. Their presence in the Archdiocese of Bamenda during the Centenary Year of the Evangelization of our Archdiocese is of great significance. At the invitation of the Archbishop the first member of the Congregation arrived Widikum on Thursday, 29th August 2013 and two other members arrived Thursday, 26th September 2013, thus making a total of three pioneer members of the Community, namely: Rev. Father Sanama Sidiang Robert, and Rev. Father Emeribe Chibuzo Marcel. At the moment the Pallotine Fathers in the Parish are:
Fr Emeribe Chibuzo Marcel                                 Parish Priest

Fr Bartholomew Claude Ndjengui Odi                Curate

In St Benedict's we have
Fr Michael Mua                                                  Principal.
